Learning Humor from Children

Medical researchers found that laughter can lower blood pressure helps reduce our stress hormones, and gives a charge to the immune system and many other functions of our body. Laughter also releases our body's natural painkillers and gives us an overall sense of feeling good. Research shows that laughing fifteen minutes each day could prolong your life. This comes from stimulating the blood flow and helping your heart. Laughter has similar health benefits as aerobic exercise but comes without the aches and pains. Laughter is a good medicine and even the expectation of laughter was very effective.

The phrase, “laughter is the best medicine” seems to have been buried six feet under. To manage cardiovascular problems today, we place ourselves under a strict, serious regimen of diets, exercise, food supplements and activities designed to decrease the risks of attack. Has everybody forgotten to have fun?

We can learn a lot from children. Have you watched young children playing in the yard or park? No matter what they are doing you are just about assured of giggles and laughs. It is just amazing to watch the happy little faces when you blow bubbles and they try to catch them. Who could keep from laughing while listening to them giggle and laugh? Then there is the swing set and the slide. This creates more laughter and just listening you would think it was the most fun they had ever had. They can chase a butterfly and laugh dozens of times or they can pretend and laugh even more. By observing children or just being around them adults could learn the art of laughter.

Isn't it amazing that we as adults can learn so much just from being around them. We can revert back to our childhood and do all kinds of goo-goo's and make all kinds of funny sounds that will make us all laugh. The next time you are around children take time to notice that it is the small stuff, as well as our attention that can make a child laugh and give us pleasure in return. Have you ever watched a child take a nap and they are smiling or even laughing? It makes you wonder what they are thinking or dreaming about. Don't they look so peaceful?

I know you had to smile to yourself. Children are so loveable (at times) and it is so sweet when you see children sharing affection toward each other; maybe a hug good-bye, blowing kisses, or a simple wave and a smile. In the world we live in today, we are always in such a rush to get home from work, go to the grocery store, get supper cooked, do homework, we need to step back and realize that we need to see where we can get the most pleasure from "the smiling faces of our children".

By observing children or just being around them adults could learn the art of laughter. There are many lessons to be learned from our children. When we see our children laughing and playing it is like they don’t have a care in the world. We really could learn a valuable lesson here. So, the next time your child wants you to play with them take a few minutes out of your busy day. You will gain so much.
